BSLV Exam Pattern & Structure
Mode: CLI-Based Remote Exam via BSLV-Machine (Secure VM Terminal)
Security: Ephemeral tokens, time-limited questions, no backtracking
Question Distribution
| Question Type | Count | Time / Question | Total Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ultra-short (Quick Recall) | 400 | 5 seconds | 33 min 20 sec |
| Short MCQ | 70 | 20 seconds | 23 min 20 sec |
| Medium Reasoning | 20 | 1 minute | 20 minutes |
| Long Analytical | 10 | 5 minutes | 50 minutes |
| Total | 500 | — | ~2 hr 6 min 40 sec (question time) |
With four scheduled breaks (each 10–15 minutes) between the 5 blocks, the full exam duration is approximately ~3 hours including breaks.
Exam Features
- 5 blocks of 100 questions each
- 4 breaks (10–15 minutes each) between blocks
- No returning to previous questions (no backtracking)
- Human interpretation required on select items (anti-cheating measure)
- Secure VM environment with monitoring and tamper detection
Major Syllabus Areas
Core Bioinformatics: NGS pipelines, sequence analysis, genomics.

AI / ML / DL: Machine learning in biology, deep learning, GenAI applications.
Emerging Trends: Single-cell sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, space biotech, QNGS, XR applications.
Notes & Recommendations
- The ultra-short 5-second items are intended for rapid recall only (definitions, single-term answers). Ensure practice so candidates are familiar with pace.
- Long analytical items allow deeper reasoning — plan your time allocation in practice runs.
- Breaks are mandatory and designed to reduce fatigue; candidates should plan accordingly.
- All answers are transmitted encrypted to BSLV servers and verifiable by per-candidate hashes published after the exam.
